Wednesday thru the Alps

We woke early and breakfasted in the hotel. Most hotels include breakfast in the price. Croissents, coffee, cereal, fruit, jam, yogurt, often cheese and ham, really wonderful then we were on our way. Alas today we left the Autostrada as we exited Italy and for a piece returned into France. We headed thru the 11+km tunnel under Mont Blanc into Chamonix and towards Switzerland. The views are spectacular and we stopped to snap many a picture. On to the Swiss border and Geneva.

Geneva is a town of 400,000 people and surrounds the southern edge of Lac Lemon. It is a major conference centre with many ads for beautiful watches! There is a gyser in the middle of the lake, the "Jet d'eau"...which we don't fully understand but will research tomorrow as we wander around. Prices are VERY expensive here. We went into a little shock... with the 380€ for two rooms quoted...then we realized in swiss francs...so roughly 65% of the cost of a euro...never the less we found more reasonable accomodations, a laundry, and internet cafe and will soon go to dinner. Aurevoir from Geneva...nice to be somewhere where I can speak the lingo again!
